Course Description

Course Description

In this course we’ll be looking at everything you need to know about the public schools and the influence they had on the development of games and sport in the 19th century and on modern sport.

We will follow the OCR A level specification closely and cover all areas, including the often overlooked and challenging areas that students find tricky, and which traditionally they do not perform well in, such as the games ethics and the cult of athleticism.

With plenty of sound advice on subject knowledge, teaching ideas, exam technique and resource creation, using multimedia (including video and audio tutorials) this course is about saving you time and providing you with the ‘on demand’ information and assistance you need, whenever you need it.

The course is aimed at developing your teaching so that you can give your students the best possible chance of success, when tackling questions on this topic.

Specifically, you’ll learn about:

  • the promotion and organisation of sports and games

  • the promotion of ethics through sports and games

  • the cult of athleticism – meaning, nature and impact, and

  • the spread and export of games and the games ethic

The course also includes a look at how your students could be examined in this area and some typical exam style questions.

There’s also an opportunity for you to assess the depth of your subject knowledge by taking the check your understanding quiz.

Finally, all the resources used in this course, including PowerPoint presentations and Word and PDF documents are available for you to download and use in your teaching today!
